Welcome to a
collection of information about all of the Leadville Trail 100 courses. This data has been
gathered throughout the last 3 race seasons using a variety of GPS units and
validated using National Geographic's TOPO! program.
The GPS recordings used are loaded on connect.garmin.com and can be accessed
directly using links on the individual race pages. The distances are
deemed to be between 98% and 100% accurate. The elevation gain and loss
is somewhat less accurate perhaps as low as 95%. Because GPS data
uses many straight lines to approximate a route the distances and elevation
totals are universally short. For example, the consensus after many
bicycle measurements by the old MTB100 guard is that the course is within a
tenth of 103.5 miles long (2009 course). The GPS data here indicates
103.3 miles. As new data becomes
available this site is updated. Please contact us directly at (mwallace @ nyx.net) or through the Leadville Trail 100
office if you’d like to contribute to the site. Many thanks to those who have
already done so. Mark “Go Far, Go Fast, Have
Fun!” ===================================== If you’re starved for even more

GENERAL
NOTES ON THE MAPS & DATA Some maps that follow were generated
using GPS data imported into National Geographics
TOPO! Program. The elevation profiles
were generated using either TOPO! or printed from connect.garmin.com. For several of the out and back
courses the maps and elevation profiles represent the route to the
turn-around point. If only half of the
course is shown the elevation gain and loss numbers can be added together to obtain
the total elevation gained for the full course. |

All of the data files can be downloaded from actual race
recordings loaded onto connect.garmin.com.
Follow the “Route Summary” links on the individual race map
pages. Please note the 100 Mountain Bike
course and the Silver Rush course both have land closures that are ONLY
accessible on race day. |
